DENA’S SEPTEMBER 2010 SCRAPPERS DOG BLOG Another new crafty item and it’ll be a cinch to operate (I think!) – “The Cinch”. I’m really not into book binding but my motto is “why not”… Since I’m on a limited budget I checked on-line for the best prices. What a price range but the best price was at CLC! I phoned the store and they were having a demo that day so I was there tout sweet! I arrived before the crowd and got a good seat. Our instructor introduced herself to the audience as Ms. Polly Pug and we could call her Polly! After a few verbal instructions on “The Cinch” Polly invited each one of us, on an individual basis, up for a “paws on” approach. Since I was in the front row (well planned!) I was called up first… The first thing I noticed was the colour as it nearly matched my “Big Shot” machine. Polly began by showing me the basics and then asked me to try on my own. Panic mode set in as I knew I wasn’t ready since I wasn’t paying attention while she was talking. The only thing I could do was pretend (that’s not hard for us Bassets) to know what I was doing. I began by moving my large paws over the machine and commenting on the colour. Polly interrupted me and told me in no uncertain terms to move faster as I was holding up the entire class! Under my breath I whispered “so what”…I then attempted to move the lever but … but one of my long claws got caught and I couldn’t release it. In desperation I looked over at Polly but she and the rest of the class totally ignored me! She finally approached and told me to remove my claw myself as she was at her wits end with me. I don’t know why or had she heard about me and the “glitter class”? If so, my past is catching up with me! To make matters worse she then moved the entire class, with the exception of me, to another table where she set up the demo. An hour passed and I was still caught in “The Cinch” until Beader Bob came my way – he didn’t say anything (the strong silent type) and released a lever. I was then as free as a bird…. I meant Basset! With a throbbing paw I rushed over to the other demo but it was just ending and it was quite apparent I wasn’t welcome. To remedy their rudeness I decided to purchase my own machine and hightail it out of there, leaving them to instructor Pug and her non-stop yakking. Once home I took “The Cinch” out of its box and was well on the way to becoming an expert (in my opinion) on the machine – well…. actually an authority on removing caught Basset claws!
