JOEY’S SCRAPPERS DOG BLOG NOVEMBER 2011 Do you like my picture? I don’t, as it doesn’t portray the real me - a “romantic pittie” as you will see by my next picture. For the November project I planned on doing a Remembrance Day card so management put up the obligatory signs and the calls started coming in almost immediately. Most crafters wanted to know if I’d be doing the class by myself or with an assistant. After they were informed that I’d be on my own for this class many background cheers were heard. Shows how popular I’m going to be! Class day arrived and so did the crafters with trays of home baked goodies for my enjoyment and to help me over the loss of my beloved Dena. Most were repeat crafters and two were newbie’s which added to the diversity of the class. I felt slightly nervous, this being my first solo class, so I more or less moved in slow motion, which is not hard for me! To begin I distributed the individual packages and asked everyone to check the contents. All were okay with the exception of one crafter who said she didn’t have as many poppy flowers as the next crafter. Oh no, here we go again… another irritation. I then asked everyone to do a poppy count of which there should be four. There were, including the irritating crafter’s package. She miscounted! I think I’ll make a note of her and file it under “b….” (slang for female dog) since I didn’t know her full name. With that delay our class was a little late starting so I didn’t waste any time delivering my crafty instructions. While everyone was folding their card stock another slight issue arose, this time it was a collision of the canine elbows. I quickly resolved that by dividing the class between two tables which made it more difficult for me to keep my gorgeous golden eyes on everyone but the only way to keep them all happy. The class was finally at the poppy stage and I assumed it would be smooth sailing from there on. I assumed wrongly as a couple of crafters had problems removing adhesive backing strips due to their large paws. I’m sure you can guess who they were can’t you? Yes, it was the Basset family, mother & daughter who admitted they were new to the crafty scene. Since I have a soft spot for that breed I didn’t waste any time assisting them, especially the daughter, who looked up at me with her big brown innocent eyes. Wow! Excuse me…. I must remember I’m still in mourning for my beloved. I soon returned to the other crafters who were diligently working on their cards. What a relief! Again I spoke too soon as that earlier irritation “b….” was back at it again. This time she was fussing over the size of the flowers and wouldn’t stop complaining. By now I’d had it with this so-called crafter and informed her that she would be moving to another table at which time I’d provide her with a ruler and she could spend the rest of her class time allotment measuring poppy flowers. On a parting note I loudly barked “happy measuring”… I would have liked to have said more but being the gent (?) I am, I didn’t. The other crafters welcomed me back to their tables with a few cheers and we then resumed with the cards. Eventually everyone finished on time and went on their canine way. It was a different story with the “b….” crafter who was still in measuring mode. Sensing this might be a delicate situation I approached management, who immediately resolved the situation by informing her the class fee didn’t include her measuring time and if she didn’t measure up to their instructions she’d be charged an additional fee. That worked! She then gathered her unfinished card and silently left the store with her snout in a pout!
